Courses Offered
The Government Law College offers two courses in law: (i) Three year and (ii) Five year law degree course. Each of these courses is independent of the other and is in accordance with the rules laid down by the University of Mumbai and the Bar Council of India. Each course has its own admission criteria.
- The 3 Year Law Course: Admission is open to candidates holding a Bachelor's Degree from any faculty of the University of Mumbai or an equivalent degree from any other University. It is a six semester, full time course. On completion of the three year course, i.e., after the 6th semester, the LL.B. degree is awarded. Students who desire to study the law, but do not wish to practice as advocates are eligible for the LL.B. (General) Degree, at the end of the 2nd year i.e. after the 4th semester.
- The 5 Year Law Course, leading to B.L.S. LL.B. is an integrated ten semester law course. Admission is open to any candidate who has cleared their 12th standard examination from any recognized Board across India. The first and the second year of the five year course, i.e. 1st to 4th semester, is a 'Pre- Law' course. The students of the five year degree program are awarded the B.L.S. (Bachelor of Legal Science) degree at the end of the third year, (i.e. 6th semester) and on completion of five years, (10th semester) the LL.B. degree is conferred.

Recognizing the growing importance of India's Capital Market and in keeping with its pioneering role in Indian Legal Education, the Government Law College, Mumbai offers a one-year Postgraduate Diploma Course in Securities Law which is the first of its kind in India. Admission is open to candidate holding a Bachelor's Degree from any faculty of the University of Mumbai or an equivalent degree from any other University of having basic knowledge of Corporate Laws. Last Date of receiving applications - Sunday 23rd April 2023.

Human rights are the most precious legacy of human thought and civilisation and its protection is sacrosanct and inviolable, universally. Respect for human rights is fundamental to the discourse of survival of any nation and to the core values of human society. Therefore, there is an urgent need to create sufficient awareness about the philosophy, issues and practice of this subject. The aim of this course is to equip participants with basic knowledge relating to human rights and provide information on its effective management and enforcement. The Course will also enable participants to effectively apply the principles of human rights in their chosen fields as well as outside of it, as conscientious citizens and will especially contribute to the progress of those interested in legal, political, sociological and ethical theory. The Course is adequately interspersed with field visits, as we believe this would expose participants to a wide range of issues requiring attention as well as to the mechanisms available for the protection of human rights.

IPR is emerging as a critical field of law, for protection of intellectual property in the form of patents, trademarks, copyright or design, with its demand increasing constantly. Admission is open to candidate holding a Bachelor's Degree from any faculty of a recognized university. This course is useful not only to lawyers, but also to engineers, doctors, etc. especially with respect to knowledge about patents and copyrights.

Information Technology has pervaded every aspect of human life and it is essential for law students to keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in this nascent but rapidly evolving legal field. Accordingly since the year 2004-2005, the Government Law College has been conducting a "Diploma in Cyber Law", in association with the Asian School of Cyber Law.
