STUDENTS’ COUNCIL

The Students’ Council is the apex students’ body of GLC. Apart from organizing specific events, it acts a link between the students and the college faculty and administration. The Council addresses student grievances and co-ordinates guest lectures by visiting faculty, exchange programmes, seminars, conferences, scholarships, etc. It also assists in maintenance of the GLC website, the Electronic Research Room, the Library, and augments smooth functioning of the other student bodies of GLC.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Alumni Association acts as a link between the illustrious alumni of GLC and the students and faculty of the college. Tdevider1ough its various events, the Alumni Association endeavours to enable the alumni to play a pro-active role in the day to day functioning of college, its student initiatives and events. The Association consists of a parent body consisting of prominent alumni, and a student wing of current students of GLC.

DEBATING SOCIETY

The Debating Society co-ordinates all debating and elocution related activities at GLC. It conducts intra-college debates at regular intervals and also conducts eliminations to select students to represent the college at inter-collegiate debating and elocution competitions.

DRAMATICS COMMITTEE

The Dramatics Committee encourages budding actors to showcase their talent in the form of Hindi and Marathi drama. The committee also trains students to participate at the Indian National Theatre, and other similar theatre fests.

ENGLISH DRAMATICS COMMITTEE

The committee strives towards the promotion of English drama at the college tdevider1ough a variety of acting techniques, impromptu drama exercises and situational acting. The committee also meets at regular intervals to witness dramas, plays and stand-up comic performances.

The Gujarati Mandal endeavours to promote the Gujarati culture by celebrating festivals such as ‘Makar Sankranti’ and ‘Navratri’.

LAW REVIEW

Established under the privileged guidance of Former CJI Justice Y.V. Chandrachud, the GLC Law Review has come a long way since its inception, tdevider1ough its 7 editions. It provides a platform for students to hone their literary and research skills. The Law Review releases a Students Edition as well as a Bar Edition, the latter containing articles from some of the most eminent members of the legal fraternity.

LEGAL AID COMMITTEE

The legal aid committee strives to provide legal assistance to those who cannot afford it. It has encouraged aspiring lawyers to involve themselves in social service, which goes beyond the college curriculum. The committee trains students to file bail applications, conducts weekly visit to remand homes and spreads awareness about the Right to Information Act. The committee also organizes exhibitions showcasing the artwork of talented inmates from prisons across Maharashtra.

THE LEO CLUB

A youth wing of the Lions Club International, the Leo Club has been actively involved in multiple cultural and social causes, including blood donation drives, senior citizen welfare programmes and activities for street children. The Club received the award for the Best Leo Club in the district for the academic year 2010-11, and completed 16 projects in the year. The motive of the club is to create social awareness amongst young budding lawyers. The Club believes in generating leadership qualities among students.

MAGAZINE COMMITTEE

Profile

The Committee creates an Annual College Magazine, méLAWnge. This publication is a blend of fact and fiction. It has several sections such as: a theme which revolves around a global topic of concern, transcript of interviews of eminent legal personalities taken by the Committee, the Past Revisited - reprinted articles written by legal stalwarts of today who were aspiring law students of GLC when they wrote the article in the Magazine, At Loggerheads - written debate displaying the pros and cons of a controversial issue, Courtroom Humour - anecdotes narrated by legal luminaries, Mag Review - articles written by the members of the Committee in a lighter vein on sensational topics which have captured the imagination of the public, After GLC - ex-students of GLC who have managed to carve a niche for themselves in the ultimate field of their choice write briefly about their experiences outside the world of GLC, etc. The Committee gives an opportunity to the students of GLC to showcase their literary talents by publishing articles, poems written by them on a wide variety of subjects. The Magazine also documents the myriad happenings at GLC.

The Magazine is circulated amongst dignitaries in Delhi such as the President of India, Chief Justice of India, Minister of Law & Justice, etc., Supreme Court of India and Bombay High Court Judges, Law firms in Mumbai and Delhi, Senior Counsel and Counsels in Mumbai, all the students and faculty of GLC, all law colleges across India, etc.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS SOCIETY

The GLC MUN Society aims to educate students about the advantages of MUNning (an internationally recognized form of debate, discussion and deliberation.)The Society assists the students and facilitates greater participation of the students of GLC at various City, National and International MUN Conferences, and officially selects and sends contingents from college to these Conferences. The activities of the Society involve young people in the study and discussion of global issues, and encourage the development of useful skills such as research, writing, public speaking, problem solving, consensus building, conflict resolution and cooperation.

MOOT COURT ASSOCIATION

Since its inception in 1954, the MCA is committed to promote, co-ordinate and encourage the activity of mooting at GLC. The primary objective of the MCA is to provide student of GLC with a platform to gain exposure to the practical aspects of legal education. The MCA organizes some of the most prestigious moots in the country.

The Music Circle aims to provide a platform to those who are passionate about Music. It is devoted to motivate students to pursue Music as an important extra-curricular activity. It co-ordinates the participation of students from GLC in various music events at various inter-collegiate fests like Mood Indigo, Malhar, Sympulse, etc.

PLACEMENT COMMITTEE

The Placement Committee shoulders the responsibility of co-ordinating all aspects of recruitments and placements at GLC. It is the Committee which ensures that every student gets every available opportunity of recruitment with Law Firms, LPOs, Counsels or Corporate Houses. The Committee draws up a database of students, invites recruiters from across the country for on and off Campus Placements and organises pre-placement talks. Although the Annual Placement Week witnesses the largest quantum of recruitment opportunities, the Committee functions tdevider1ough the year and co-ordinates the recruitment process at every available opportunity and offer.

ROTARACT CLUB

The Rotaract Club of GLC is a unit of the Rotary International, an international organization at the forefront of social service and societal development. The Rotract Club aims at the overall development of its members. To achieve this end, it undertakes various social service initiatives, personality development initiatives as well as entertainment and fun events for its members. It organises “The Charity Sale” in association with several NGOs to provide a platform to the under-privileged to showcase their talent and products and market them to a wide audience.

SPORTS COMMITTEE

The Sports Committee is the organization that co-ordinates all the sporting activities at GLC, from selecting the college teams for various football, cricket, basketball, chess and other sporting tournaments to participation in various sports festivals like Spiritus at NLSIU, Bangalore and others across the country. The Committee also organizes cricket matches and other sporting tournaments for GLC students.

SOCIAL SERVICE LEAGUE

Rooted in the pursuit of social justice, the Social Service League’s (SSL) strategies are oriented towards making lives better. This is primarily achieved by tie-ups and associations with various institutions, apart from several initiatives individually taken up by the League. It has undertaken several projects such as tree plantation drives, clean up drives, projects with NGOs working for the destitute, orphaned children, HIV patients, etc. It organizes an annual exhibition Shikhar which provides a platform to various NGOs to showcase their handmade products and offer them for sale.

STUDENTS FOR THE PROMOTION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW, MUMBAI (SPIL)

SPIL, Mumbai was born in furtherance of a desire to understand the tumultuous nature of International Relations. SPIL seeks to promote a greater awareness and appreciation of International Law and provides opportunities for the comprehensive study of International cultures and legal systems. SPIL organizes Workshops and informative Paper Presentations on the basics of International Law, interpretation of judgements and issues pertaining to emerging trends in International Law. It is associated with the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) and is a chapter of the International Law Students’ Association (ILSA). It’s flagship event, the GLC International Law Summit, is an eclectic mix of key note addresses, lectures, and two competitions unique to the Summit - the Treaty Appreciation
Competition, and the International Judgment Deliberation Competition.
